The first reason is the success of the anime itself.

Continuation of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners can become a financially successful project, which is an important indicator.
The second reason may be another project on the Cyberpunk universe.
But wait for such a project for us for a very long time. I, like many, are inclined to the fact that the next full -fledged game CD Project Red will be a new witcher. But, I think that sooner or later a new game on the Cyberpunk franchise we will still see. It remains only to hope that by the anime by that time it will not be completely forgotten.

What will happen next?
I believe that a direct continuation of the first season is unlikely, since all the characters either died or are not of interest.

If the second season reveals new details about the world, complements the image of Night City, will be not so much as a plot continuation, how much as a continuation of the spiritual, if it is the same atmospheric and is also careful about the details, then you definitely need.

If they just make an anthology, I will not mind. Every season is a new story, new characters, because there were enough legends in Night City.
But he will no longer be a continuation. As an emergency: returning home was not a continuation of the Avengers. Or the new "Dragon Dungeons" will not be a continuation of the first film.

Okay, I was partially familiar with Cyberpunk2077, I signed up and played in the Cyberpunk2020 dwarf, which made the game, as well as with Loro 2020, so I judge based on this. First I will call the lorne reasons, and then additional.
1) Resurrection in cyberpanka is not a myth. Speaking more specifically, then in NRI KP2020 a system is painted by a dead person within 10 minutes can be returned to life.
